Since the pandemic happened in early 2020, no bursaries have been awarded.  The major fundraiser for bursaries is the Vintage Film Festival and this could not be held in 2020 but was held in 2021.  There is no decision yet whether the Foundation will be awarding Bursaries in 2022.  Below is information from 2019.

Four Bursaries of $1000 each are available in 2019

Up to four bursaries are available for students enrolled in Northumberland County secondary schools who intend to continue their post-secondary education in the performing arts, and other arts related programs.  It is expected that students will start their post-secondary education in the Fall of 2019.

Applicants will be required to provide:

  • The name of their school in Northumberland
  • The College or University they are planning to attend
  • References from two of their teachers – including one guidance counsellor
  • Information on significant activities in their school and community
  • A copy of your school transcript for courses completed and mid-term marks for the current year
  • A short essay (about 250 words) describing your aspirations relating to your proposed course of study.

Two options to apply:

1) Download the form (a fillable pdf), complete it, attach the required documents and send to:

Marie Dressler Foundation
P.O. Box 673, Stn. Main,
Cobourg, ON K9A 4R5

OR

2) Download the fillable pdf; complete it on your computer. When completed, please send it with attachments as listed on the form, to the Marie Dressler Foundation at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The deadline for applications is June 4, 2019 and awards will be announced at the end of June.  Winners will be expected to make themselves available for a presentation in Cobourg (at Dressler House) on a date to be announced in July 2019.
